Brand Story
Black Girl Sunscreen is an inclusive sun-care brand founded by Shontay Lundy in 2016 to create sunscreen that protects darker skin without leaving a white or gray residue. After struggling to find suitable SPF products for her own active lifestyle, Lundy invested her savings into developing a moisturizing formula designed specifically for melanated complexions. The brand also works to challenge the misconception that people with darker skin do not need sun protection. Through education and accessible products for adults, children, faces, and bodies, Black Girl Sunscreen has helped make daily SPF more relevant to underserved communities. It later became the first independent Black-owned sunscreen brand sold at Target and expanded into major retailers across the United States. Black Girl Sunscreen makes sun protection feel inclusive, comfortable, and created with melanated skin in mind.
