Brand Story

Founded in October 2020 by Temidayo Adedokun — a Yale Law School graduate and Nigerian-Canadian mother of four — Ade + Ayo was born from the inability to find children’s clothing that celebrated African heritage in an authentic, affordable, and everyday wearable way. Adedokun, who had been working as an attorney in Oakland, was furloughed during the COVID-19 pandemic and turned her creative vision into a full-time business. She began by making African print onesies for her newborn son, received immediate community response, and launched the brand. Ade + Ayo combines the Yoruba words for ‘crown’ and ‘joy’ — reflecting the pride and happiness children bring to their parents’ lives. The brand appeared on Shark Tank Season 13, has been featured in Vanity Fair, Today, and GMA, and donates a portion of profits to education organizations in Africa. Based in Oakland, California.
