Wesley Clark

Wesley Clark is a Washington, DC-based artist who holds an MFA in Studio Arts from George Washington University (2012) and a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University (2001). His practice explores the tension between subjective memory and objective history — constructing fictional narratives to guide his process, posing and answering questions about the imagined lives of fabricated objects. He distresses, gouges, and peels paint to simulate age and wear, creating objects that appear familiar but suggest a history that never truly existed. His mark-making — through meditation and narrative — layers imagined time, intention, and use. Clark explores spiritual faiths, home, place, erasure, and belonging. His work is exhibited nationally, and he has received a 2023 Baha Mar Art Prize (Nassau, Bahamas) and a 2021 Independent Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council.
